New Studio at 931 Treat Avenue

September first marked the first year anniversary of moving into a new location in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District. 931 Treat is a 1400 square-foot facility where we are now set up for etching, photogravure, silkscreen, and letterpress.

2012 saw the publication of Sandow Birk's Monument to the Constitution, (pictured above, in progress), a major direct gravure etching in nine panels on handmade Japanese paper.

Workshops and exhibitions will be coming soon.

(A)topia for Submit Magazine

(A)topia
A Photogravure Print Project

for PNCA Submit Magazine

Using as source material twenty-three found family snapshots from Japan, I will be creating a photogravure plate with thirty different 4x5 inch prints. The plate will be printed seventeen times. After each print is pulled, the plate will be distressed and changed through chance accidents involving drypoint, etching in ferric chloride, and random uncontrolled acts.

The result is that the images will be changed and damaged, sometimes violently, until they fade altogether from the picture frame.

The seventeen prints will be cut into five hundred and ten unique images, five hundred of which will be presented in a glassine envelope tipped into the back cover of Submit Magazine—the semi annual publication produced by the PNCA Student Body.

The release party is April 25th. Stay tuned for more images.
